Path of Exile Builds for Patch 1.2 Forsaken Masters

With the 1.2 patch we are testing some new theory-crafted builds and slowly updating old builds.

Beginner build for 1.2 – Ethereal Knives Shadow

Core Build Design:

As a beginner friendly build the Ethereal Knives Shadow was designed to be cheap and tanky. To achieve this the build isn’t critical based and the passive tree doesn’t take Mind over Matter, instead we pick up lots of life and use the Grace aura with Iron Reflexes. While levelling the Shadow may need to use the Clarity aura to keep their Mana regeneration stable but the planned high level build should have enough Mana from the passive tree to drop that aura.

Testing State:

This build has been tested by viewers, initial feedback is that the build is solid.

Build Plan:

Critical Evasion Bow Ranger

Core Build Design:

Since the 1.2 patch rebalanced bow skills Ziggy was keen to try out the new Tornado Shot skill gem. This build is the one he started with in the new Beyond hardcore league. The main skill Tornado Shot is difficult to use but when used well it is very effective. Due to this Tornado Shot is tuned towards experienced players, while Split Arrow is easier for beginners to control. The Crit Evasion Bow Ranger also uses Puncture for single target damage.

This build requires the unique Lightning Coil for late game hardcore survivability due to the choice of Evasion defence. Cruel and Merciless Weaver and the two Rogue Exiles that use Ethereal Knives are very dangerous for the Crit Evasion Bow Ranger. The choice of Evasion as a defence mechanic in this build allows us to stack critical chance and damage without the fear of reflect thanks to the Ondar’s Guile keystone passive.

Testing State:

This build is being tested by Ziggy. This video isn’t the final build guide, but it explains what the build looks like currently.

Here is some gameplay of the current build.

Burning Arrow Proliferation Shadow

Core Build Design:

This build was designed for Amy, she wanted to play a bow skill without traps. Many of the gems used in this build must be traded for and the skills really benefit from 6-Links, because of this the build can get a bit expensive. The main Burning Arrow gem can be easily obtained by making a Ranger and taking the Burning Arrow into the first town. The build uses Iron Reflexes and can access enough life from the passive tree to be hardcore viable.

Testing State:

This build is being tested by Amy, it was a bit squishy during at level 40-50 but that was due to prioritising damage over life. Vaal Burning Arrow and linking more supports has increased it’s power.

Foxtactics Style Arc Mind over Matter Witch

Core Build Design:

This build was designed to replace the Beginner’s Lightning Arrow Ranger. While suggested unique item prices have increased beyond a beginner’s average currency the build is still fantastic. Despite the nerf to Arc, this build is stronger with patch 1.2. Self cast Arc clears mob packs quickly and the auto-aim of the skill makes it easy to play. With the removal of Shock Stacks the Arc Totem from the original build is less important, consider swapping it for the Vaal Storm Call set-up in the spreadsheet.

Testing State:

This build was tested by Ziggy, who respeced his Arc Witch. It is stronger than before although the Vaal Storm Call recommendation was not able to be tested, and remains a theory for a strong single target addition.

Build Plan:

The original video goes in to great depth and is still the best way to see how the build comes together.

The update video shows the build after the 1.2 patch and respec.

The spreadsheet contains links to levelling videos and passive trees as well as the Vaal Storm Call link suggestion. Note the tabs containing a bunch of information Ziggy recorded during the 7 day Arc Witch project.

Ethereal Knives Mind over Matter Arctic Armour Scion/Shadow

Core Build Design:

This build was first designed by Ziggy to be super tanky for hardcore leagues. With the 1.2 patch it now deals more damage. The build was originally designed on a Scion, then later as a Shadow as passive skill tree changes made that starting area stronger.

Testing State:

This build was tested by Ziggy, who respeced his Ethereal Knives Scion. The buff to Ethereal Knives made the build deal more damage. It also gained a bit of life but lost a little bit of Mana.

Build Plan:

The original video guide describes the build and gear.

The update video explains why Shadow became a better option with patch 1.1 Sacrifice of the Vaal and other changes.

The spreadsheet contains links to patch 1.2 passive trees for the Scion and Shadow, note that the build plan information hasn’t been added into the spreadsheet yet.

We will update this post as more builds are updated.
